Light the Night News:
Batavia Middle School is helping to win the battle for blood cancer patients (those affected with leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers) by supporting the Light the Night fund drive (formerly Pennies for Patients)!
Every day over 480 people are diagnosed with one of these diseases and every day 160 people die. The good news is that through research that death rate has dramatically declined. Did you know that children diagnosed with leukemia in the 1960s had a 3% chance for survival, but now that chance is close to 90%? That’s great news, but we still have a ways to go defeating other blood cancers.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which runs Light the Night, uses your gifts to fund research for cures AND to help patients right here in the tri-state with patient education and support, transportation, and medical bills. Giving to Light the Night not only helps others, but it also helps teach kids the value of compassion, something that is far too lacking in our world today. Your child can donate any amount - no gift is too small. Friends and family can also donate, too, in your child’s name. When your child donates, he/she has the opportunity to win class prizes - including a pizza lunch! The drive runs Tuesday, February 21 through Monday, March 6. Donations are submitted to 4th bell teachers. Thank you for helping us help those in need!
To donate online, please click on the link below and be sure to type your child's teacher's name in the message box. This will ensure that the class receives credit.
